The Sony HDC-1500 and HDC-1500/444 HD camera systems combined with the Sony SRW1 HDCAM SR field recorder offer capability so far difficult to achieve. The HDC-1500 and HDC-1500/444 represent the pinnacle of Sony imaging technology compliant to REC709 standards. The cameras are 1080p, up to 60 frames per second. The HDC-1500/444 variant is cable of 4:4:4 color space via dual-link.

When recorded to a Sony SRW1 HDCAM SR field recorder up to 2.5x over-crank (slo mo) recordings can be achieved at 4:2:2 HDCAM SR (SQ) quality when resolving to a 24fps rate.

The HDC-1500 and HDC-1500/444 portable cameras utilize the same advanced imager system as the F23 (aka NextGen or NGC23) HD cinematography camera and 14 Bit A/D converters. The newly developed CCD imager captures at either 1080/60 frame progressive or 1080/60 field interlace frame rates, depending on desired final system output. The new CCD and DSP LSI are two key devices that allow stunning image creation in a variety of scanning modes. The new camera system accommodates all popular interlace and progressive scan formats including 1080/60p, 1080/60i, 1080/24p as well as the highest-quality 720/60p images.

The SRW-1 HD Portable Digital Video Recorder and SRPC-1 HD Video Processor are the newest members of the CineAlta™ product lineup and form the first Sony full-bandwidth 4:4:4 (RGB) capable portable VTR system adopting the HDCAM-SR format. The SRW-1/SRPC-1 offers virtually lossless 1080-line high-definition recordings at multiple frame rates on the HDCAM-SR tape media. The SRW-1/SRPC-1 connects to its companion HDC-1500 and HDC-1500/444 portable cameras via HD-SDI dual link coaxial or single or dual fiber optical cables to create a convenient, portable full-bandwidth image capturing system. The SRPC-1 processor unit provides a variety of video-processing functions and houses an array of input and output connectors, including HD/SD signals, 12 channels of digital audio, and 4 channels of analog audio. The processing functions include 2-3 pull-down insertions for 525 down conversion, and RGB 4:4:4 to Y/Pb/Pr 4:2:2 color space conversion. The system is capable of operating in three recording modes. SQ (standard Quality) providing 440 Mbps video payload to tape in both 4:4:4 or 4:2:2, HQ (High Quality) mode allowing for 2x speed recording yielding 880 Mbps to tape with a 2:1 compression ratio in full band RGB 4:4:4, and 3D mode where two separate 4:2:2 HD SDI inputs can be recorded simultaneously to the same tape, providing an efficient means of recording stereo full bandwidth 4:2:2 images for 3D productions. Each stereo channel is recorded at 440 Mbps with the benefits of full error correction to both channels.
